ABOUT MARY-ELLEN THOMPSON, PH.D.

     
       Mary-Ellen is a caring, compassionate individual who strives for excellence in her clinical practise. She has experience working in the education setting, hospital environment and community rehabilitation.   Mary-Ellen services clients across several geographical areas including Belleville, Centre and North Hastings, Picton, Napanee, Kingston, Quinte West, Trenton, Brighton, Cobourg and many points in between. As well, Mary-Ellen has an office in Belleville for assessment, treatment and case conferences.

       Mary-Ellen is a registered speech-language pathologist in the Province of Ontario, and a member of the College of Audiologist and Speech-language Pathologists of Ontario. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence registration with the American Speech-language Hearing Association.

       She graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from McMaster University, a Master of Science degree in Experimental Psychology from McGill University, a Master of Health Science in Speech-language Pathology from the University of Toronto and a doctorate degree from the University of Toronto, Institute of Health Science.

       Mary-Ellen volunteers for community activities. She is currently the president of the Brain Injury Association Quinte District. She was also a member of the Research to Practise Network for Adults with ABI sponsored by the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation. As well, she was a member of the Programme Committee for the Acquired Brain Injury Provincial Conference sponsored by the Ontario Brain Injury Association (2009 and 2011).​


        Mary-Ellen provides workshops within the community on a volunteer basis. As well, she has presented papers, provincially, nationally and internationally. She teaches at the university level as time permits.

​        In 2010, Mary-Ellen was awarded the Professional of the Year award by the Ontario Brain Injury Association for “outstanding contributions to improving the lives of those living with the effects of acquired brain injury”.



       Mary-Ellen has been chosen by CASLPA as the 2012 recipient of the St Elizabeth Rehab Clinical Research grant.  Mary-Ellen, along with co-investigator, Fahmida Pardhan will be completing a project entitled "Moving Forward After Traumatic Brain Injury: Maximizing Potential by Sharing Experiences and Strategies."
